DISASTERS ABROAD - BANGLADESH |
Bangladesh normal gets floods at least once a year during the monsoon period. Not only is there constant rain for a prolonged period, but the monsoon also pressurises India to open the floodgates of their dams. These flood waters flow down to Bangladesh aggravating the situation. The people generally have their crops destroyed, houses collapsed, a shortage of drinkable water. Remind a person of a verse in a poem: “water, water everywhere – not a drop to drink”. We apologise for the quality of the photos as we got it off the Internet. |

We also have a water programme (drilling of boreholes). Although they have a lot of floods, there is still a shortage of clean drinking water. A typical hand pump |
